Fall is the season of cooler temperatures, vibrant colors, and pumpkin spice lattes! Nothing warms the soul more than a cup of this delicious classic drink on a chilly morning or a cold night. We love them so much that we decided to come up with a simple recipe you can make at home.
Since millions love pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks, we decided to offer you a healthier version of it with matcha green tea. No worries: it still has the same delicious taste plus a few other benefits.
Why matcha latte? Our body processes caffeine in matcha differently than in coffee: we don’t experience crashes or headaches after an hour, while the energy remains stable for up to 6 hours. As a result, your ability to focus and concentrate on important things improves. Matcha is also packed with antioxidants that will help boost your immune system during this fall/winter season and improve overall health.
In addition to saving money on buying your pumpkin spice lattes at coffee shops, you won’t gain weight from this latte since it’s free from added sugar.
If you are having friends over, you can surprise them with this homemade treat that tastes almost like dessert!
PUMPKIN SPICE MATCHA LATTE
Prep Time: 5 min
Total Time: 10 min
Servings: 1 latte
INGREDIENTS:
1 teaspoon of organic matcha (I’m using this matcha)
2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
¾ cup of almond milk/or regular milk if not dairy tolerant
Vanilla extract
1-2 teaspoons of stevia or maple syrup (optional)
Whipped cream and cinnamon for decoration (optional)
TOOLS:
Small saucepan
Whisk for matcha or a milk frother
INSTRUCTIONS:
We start with preparing the milk.
- In a small saucepan add pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract, and almond milk. Stir the ingredients and cook on the medium heat (simmer) until hot. While simmering, whisk the milk constantly to get a smooth, well-blended texture.
- Once you notice small bubbles of milk, remove the saucepan from the heat.
Time to make our matcha latte.
- Add a scoop/teaspoon of matcha green tea into a large mug, then add a ¼ cup of boiled water and whisk matcha vigorously with a milk frother to form a smooth paste. The more foam on top, the better!
- Once your matcha base is ready, pour the warm milk into the mug.
- Our latte is ready, and we just need to decorate it with some whipped cream and sprinkles of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.
Enjoy!
