Zekko Matcha FAQ
1. Where is Zekko Matcha produced?
All Zekko Matcha green tea is grown and produced in Japan, the Uji (Kyoto) region. This area is known for ideal farming conditions, clean air and soil. All Zekko Matcha products are grown on organic farms, without agricultural chemicals and fertilizers harmful to environment or your health.
2. Why is Zekko Matcha green tea so expensive compared to other teas, especially regular green tea?
Matcha green tea is quite different from other teas. When you steep other teas, you get only a small amount of nutrients from their tea leaves. When you drink matcha, you are consuming the entire powdered green tea leaf with all its nutrients and antioxidants boosting your energy and immune system.
The price of matcha depends also on the quality, processing and origin of the powdered green tea. Zekko Matcha tea is organic, 100% raw, first-harvested, and it’s suitable for both drinking on it’s own and cooking. Since our powdered tea is hand-picked, shade-grown, finely-ground, and free from any stems and veins that generate astringent taste, you get the best creamy taste together with all nutrients and antioxidants. We work directly with tea artisans from Japan and our matcha is certified by both JAS (Japanese Agriculture Standard) and USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), proving its finest quality.
3. Why Zekko Matcha is better than other cheaper brands?
Some cheaper matchas taste differently: they have some astringent taste, fish smell, and might spoil your matcha experience if you are not familiar with powdered green tea. The brands who offer more expensive matchas usually care about your health and environmental safety, they work with farms that use only best soils to grow the leaves. It’s like using store vegetables contaminated with pesticides vs vegetables that come directly from local farms.
At Zekko Matcha, we are confident in bringing you the best matcha experience to help boost your energy, improve your health, detox or lose weight faster, feeling calm and relaxed.
4. How to select the best matcha?
When selecting matcha, pay attention to its color, smell, flavor, and its ability to dissolve/mix. The more vibrant green color of matcha shows that it contains a lot of chlorophyll and more beneficial for your health. It will also taste better, without any bitterness. Some lower-grade matchas have fish smell and are suitable only for cooking. If the matcha powder looks vibrant green, smooth, has vegetable smell, and mixes well in water or milk, it is of a good quality. Pay attention to the certification of the brand as well: the best powdered green teas come from Japan and are both JAS and USDA certified.
5. How much caffeine is in Zekko Matcha green tea?
One cup (1 teaspoon) of Zekko Matcha green tea will have about 30-40 milligrams of caffeine, while some cups of coffee at coffee shops will have from 70 to 180 milligrams of caffeine (depends on the brand). Remember, that our body processes caffeine in matcha differently than in coffee due to L-theanine which promotes the state of relaxation and alert calmness with no crashes or headaches.
6. Can I drink matcha in the evening?
You can, but it depends on your ability to tolerate caffeine. While some people can sleep perfectly well, even after coffee at 8 pm, some people might experience anxiety after any caffeinated drink in the afternoon. We usually recommend to drink matcha not later than 4 pm to ensure a relaxed evening.
7. Can I drink matcha when pregnant?
When you are pregnant, you need to reduce the amount of caffeine to be less than 200 milligrams per day. That means you can easily consume a cup of caffeinated drinks per day, including matcha green tea. If you have special allergies or conditions of your pregnancy, we recommend you to consult your doctor before consuming matcha or any caffeine.
8. How to store my Zekko Matcha?
Since all Zekko Matcha teas are sold in a metal tin with a silver or paper pouch inside, it is safe to store them in dry, dark place, with the lid closed tightly. You can also keep matcha in a different airtight container in your fridge after opening it.
9. What is the best way to drink matcha to keep all it`s nutrients?
The best way is the one that you like! Traditionally, matcha is consumed in its clean form with just boiled water. This way, you’ll get the most nutrients. But if you prefer lattes and sweet or iced drinks, you will still get a load of matcha nutrients and vitamins. Feel free to explore different matcha recipes here that we created for you.
It’s also better to make your matcha green tea at home, since some coffee shops add a lot of sugar or sweeteners to cover the astringent taste of cheaper matcha powders.
