How to Make Matcha Green Tea Almond Latte

Posted by on

When I first tried matcha green tea latte, I fell in love with this wonderful drink. Packed with nutrients and antioxidants, rich and creamy, it quickly became my favorite morning treat.

Since matcha is growing in popularity, it’s easy to find green tea latte in local coffee shops or tea bars, but if you drink it regularly it is still pricey to go out and buy it every other day.

Another problem that I face is the absence of unsweetened lattes. For example, a 16 oz Grande Green Tea Latte at Starbucks with almond milk has 21g of sugar. At other coffee shops, this amount may vary from 10 to 30g. Some places also use cheaper green tea powders with a bitter taste and poor quality.

So, I make matcha lattes at home. Almost every day. This way I can control both quality of my lattes and my budget.

My favorite way to make matcha latte is with almond milk and vanilla. I use Japanese organic green tea powder that is grown without agricultural chemicals and hand-picked. The quality of matcha plays a great role here: if you don’t want lattes with astringent and bitter taste, go for ceremonial or premium powders.

The recipe below is a healthy variation of Green Tea Latte that is my morning caffeine fix or perfect afternoon pick-me-up. Matcha also makes this drink super healthy:

  • Helps you burn calories faster by increasing your metabolism
  • Gives you a boost of energy
  • Boosts your immune system
  • Protects your skin from UV radiation and aging

MATCHA GREEN TEA ALMOND LATTE

Here is how easy it is to make matcha latte at home.

INGREDIENTS:

1 scoop/ 1 teaspoon Zekko Matcha Green Tea Powder (I’m using this matcha)

1/4 cup boiled hot water (after boiling let it cool for 2-3 minutes)

¾ cup warm almond milk (feel free to use coconut milk if you like it more)

1 drop of vanilla extract

1 teaspoon of stevia or 1 teaspoon of manuka honey (use a sweetener of your choice - optional)

1 pinch of cinnamon

TOOLS:

Matcha whisk or milk frother (if you don’t have any, you can use a blender to make the matcha paste/base)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Add 1 teaspoon of matcha green tea powder in the cup or a matcha bowl.
  2. Add ¼ cup of boiled hot water to make the matcha paste. Take a special matcha whisk or a milk frother and whisk matcha until it’s smooth and has some foam. Make sure the powder dissolves in the water.
  3. Add ¾ cup of warm almond milk. Leave 1/4 cup of milk on the bottom to make foam to top our latte.
  4. Now, add a drop of vanilla extract to increase the flavor.
  5. Sweeten with stevia (doesn’t raise your blood sugar, for those who are on a strict diet) or honey. I usually use manuka honey produced in New Zealand: it’s expensive, but super healthy, lasts long and helps fight bad bacteria in your gut.
  6. Now it’s time to make the foam with the rest of the milk to top our latte.
  7. At the end, add a pinch of cinnamon (optional). Your delicious latte is ready!
  8. Enjoy!

With love,

Vlada
